OVERVIEW
Experience the playful and surprising side of Iyengar yoga as you learn to integrate alignment-focused therapeutic methods into your practice. In this 6-part course, Senior Intermediate Iyengar teacher Carrie Owerko demystifies what is sometimes considered a rigid and unforgiving style of yoga and illuminates a few of the principles (and props!) with lessons designed to shift your perspective. Each lesson includes and intro, a 60-minute asana practice, and a 15-minute workshop. Whether you want to add more integrity to your flow, or enhance your teaching skills, this course will help you feel more spacious, balanced, and free than you have felt in years.
This course qualifies for 20 non-contact continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance.

INSTRUCTOR
Carrie Owerko

For most of her life, Carrie Owerko has been immersed in the study of movement: from athletics to dance and theater arts, movement science, yoga, and beyond. Carrie earned a BFA in dance and theater, worked professionally as a performer in NYC, and taught theater and movement in the NYC public schools and with inmates at Riker’s Island Correctional Facility. She studied Movement Analysis and received her CMA from the Laban Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies. She also spent decades studying Iyengar Yoga and earned a senior level teaching credential. Carrie has spent years enthusiastically exploring human movement with the intention of helping people develop clearer, more fully embodied communication and expression. Curiosity, openness, and affection are of utmost importance in her approach to Iyengar Yoga, as is the integration of science, yoga philosophy, and poetic imagination. Most importantly, she loves to explore the relationship of discipline and playfulness and is a firm believer in the power of controlled folly.
