This workshop posits that therapy consists not so much in the action of talking but in the experience of how one is listened to while they talk, and that the more accurate name for successful therapy is the “listening cure.”

 

Educational Objectives:

1. Discuss the etiology of the “talking cure” as emblematic of therapy.
2. Explain the power of the therapeutic process as a function of the stance of the listener.
